The survey and site investigations showed that the 21” load bearing wall had to be retained and a cost-effective and reliable means was required while creating proposed opening into the same wall.

On both the faces of the load bearing wall of the three storey building, two HeliBar were bonded into mortar beds at two different levels above the proposed wall opening. These reinforced the brickwork, creating continuous masonry beams that helped to support and spread the structural loads. · The CemTie were inserted through clearance holes in the masonry and bonded into slots cut into the bed joints, with the outer ends bent and bonded into the mortar beds along with the twin HeliBars.

The Helifix Bars and ties provided a fast, efficient and economical solution and, with the wall fully secured, the main contractor was able to proceed with the demolition without any major contract delays.

All these solutions have restored the full structural integrity without altering the appearance of the structure
